Do you know your serum Vitamin D level? You should. It could be a matter of life or death according to scientific research results. Optimal Vitamin D levels are between 70 to 100 ng/dl on your blood test.

A new research study is now reporting that low levels of Vitamin D in the blood could mean twice the risk of premature death compared to those who had optimal levels of Vitamin D.

The study, a meta-analysis, included data from 32 studies published between 1966 and 2013, reflecting a total of 566,583 participants from 14 countries, and was led by Cedric Garland, PhD, from the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine at the University of California, San Diego. Garland states that at least two-thirds of the U.S. population suffers from low Vitamin D levels (below 30 ng/dl). Experts suggest that each person should be tested, and if serum blood levels of Vitamin D are found to be low, the individual should be put on a proper supplemental dosage.

Last weekend at the Masters Transformation Camp, we did Vitamin D testing on each participant and the findings were very important and interesting. More than half of our group are Vitamin D deficient even though it is something I have talked about numerous times. Some camp participants are right in the optimal zone and they are feeling the benefits. A couple participants were taking too much Vitamin D and with the blood work data they could see it was important to cut back the dosage. With this exact data, we are able to recommend just the right amount of supplemental Vitamin D for each person, and that is just one of dozens of adjustments we are making for people at our new Masters Fitness Camps.
